Description

Scans of photographs and other materials related to the Kreuger family, chiefly focused on Bert and Madeline Krueger.

Albert Rudolph Emil Krueger (1859-1922) immigrated from Berlin to Stuart in about 1887 to homestead 80 acres along what is now East Ocean Boulevard and became a successful pineapple farmer. He married Scottish schoolteacher Annie in 1893. They had four children, Janet Theresa Krueger Dunscombe (1894–1976), Karl John Krueger Sr. (1895–1959), Albert Paul "Bert" Krueger (1896–1973), and George Peter Krueger (1897–1948). In about 1904, they built a three story vernacular frame home on Krueger Creek, which they named “Burn Brae Plantation.” On February 14, 2002, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Daughter Janet Theresa was very active with the Stuart Woman's Club and public library. She married Carroll Dunscombe in 1914, who had arrived in Stuart in 1907 to plant pineapples and became a lawyer and businessman.

Karl and Albert became successful businessmen in real estate, property development, and insurance. They both also served in WWI in the 138th Aero Squadron, Aviation Section Signal Corps.

Albert Paul "Bert" Krueger (1896–1973) continued his interest in aviation after the war; in 1926 he created an airstrip where his father once grew pineapples which became Krueger Municipal Airport in 1928. He also pursued speedboat design and boat racing. He married Madeleine Hopkins in 1942.

Karl served as a Justice of the Peace in Stuart in the 1930s and 1940s and operated a nursery.

George became an electrical engineer, owner of several small businesses, and owned the first radio in Stuart.

The Krueger family and their descendants continue to contribute significantly to the Martin county and Stuart area as community leaders.
